SPECIAL HOLIDAY RATES FOR WEB SITES

Every web site is different, so I will try to describe a few typical sites that would make good gifts and what our special price is!

Family Photos
A Small Personal or Business Web Site
A Memorial

FAMILY PHOTOS: Want a web site with your favorite and best family photos so your family and friends all over the world could enjoy them? This could be a family history for a family member who has collected many old photos and has some geneology to share, or it could be a tour of your friend's recently decorated house, or photos of your uncle's favorite hobby, or a site to commemorate an important event such as this holiday season, etc.

For this type of site, I would recommend a site on a free server (most have ads and those that don't either will in the future or may go out of business, but many have been around for a long time - see below) or on the free web space that many people get free with their email account. I could either train you (in the Accokeek area) how to set it up for them as we set it up together or I could set it up; though the former could take more time than the latter, I would charge a flat $100 to create the initial account and then demonstrate how to upload digital images. If you would then need my services to also put the photos on the site, it would be $35 for 12 photos if they're already in digital format. If they need to be scanned from prints, it would be an additional $35 for 12 photos.

So if you'd like a basic photo site on a free server (with an address, such as http://www.geocities.com/yourname) that can be edited by you or your family member or friend, a site with 48 photos from prints would cost $380. But it could cost as little as $100 if you wanted to learn how to do it and could do it for them. If you live in the Brandywine area (10 mile radius of the railroad tracks and Brandywine Rd.), I could go to your home or office and teach you on your computer. This would be at a time convenient for you. You'd give your friend or relative the gift certificate so they'd know they're getting it later.

A SMALL PERSONAL OR BUSINESS WEB SITE: This would be a great gift for someone who has a small business or for a resume for someone who's looking for a job. You could also give this gift to an organization to which you belong, such as your church or club. It could contain a logo or photo, basic information, some links, and be one to three pages in length. If it's put on a free server, the same deal would apply as above or if it's for someone local, they could get on a local server (Brandywinemd.com or Accokeekmd.com or CampSprings.net, so if they lived or have a small business in Brandywine, check out an example at http://www.AccokeekMD.com/YourBusiness and http://www.AccokeekMD.com/YourSite) for only $30 for a year of service (see below). The cost to develop the site would be only $100. So it could be as little as $130.

A MEMORIAL: You may have a friend who has lost a loved one or your family may have lost someone recently, or it could have even been long ago, but it might mean something very special to someone to have a memorial of their loved one placed on a web site for the family around the world to see. For a fixed site at a town location, with one or two photographs and up to three pages of text, the price would be just $75 for one year with $30 per year renewal or $250 for a perpetual* site. For an example of a memorial site, click here.

FREE WEB SPACE is available at many different places. These sites are reviewed at 100 Best Free Web Space Services. I have a site at FreeServers, which has a choice of domain names (such as FaithWeb.com, 4t.com, tvHeaven.com) and they give you the subdomain of your choice. So if it was a gift for your wife, Sally who's turning 40, you could name it Betty.4t.com (web address would be http://Betty.4t.com), though it could've been easier to work with, it offers special features for businesses. I also know people who have created sites at Geocities, which is now owned by Yahoo, but still appears to be a good service, and Homestead, but apparently new sites are no longer free there. If the site you want is not for a business, you may already have free web space with your internet service (see mine here) or AOL.com.

There are three TOWN SITE DOMAIN NAMES that I presently own, so you could purchase space within that site for only $30 per year which would include the web address of either BrandywineMD.com, AccokeekMD.com, or CampSprings.net, such as in Brandywine: http://www.AccokeekMD.com/YourBusiness. This would save you the cost of a domain name (yourbusiness.com) which is often $35 per year, plus the cost of server space which is at least $5 per month ($60 per year) without ads.

For more information or to order a web site or a gift certificate, call me (Joyce) at 301-782-9922.

* Perpetual means for the life of the web site, AccokeekMD.com. Prices are for payments made by Dec. 24, 2005. Any purchases made after that date could be at a higher rate.
